2019-2020 YPT-Chicago Board Elections

YPT-Chicago offers an excellent opportunity to develop your career, expand your professional network, and participate in events with peers and leaders in the transportation industry. YPT-Chicago also provides leadership opportunities for its members by getting involved in the chapter’s Board of Directors. The nomination period for candidates for the 2019-2020 Board of Directors is now OPEN. If you would like to run for a Board of Directors position or vote in the election, please continue reading below.
CANDIDATE AND VOTING ELIGIBILITY
To run for a YPT-Chicago Board of Directors position or vote in the elections you must be or become a paid YPT Member by Sunday, September 15, 2019, 11:59 PM EDT. You can become a member or renew your membership at: https://my.yptransportation.org/join. If you think you are already a YPT Member but are unsure, you can check your membership status by logging into https://my.yptransportation.org and clicking on the “Renew Your Membership” link on the menu on the right of your screen.
If you would like to nominate yourself for one of the eight elected Board of Director positions described below, your nomination should be submitted by e-mail to YPT-Chicago Deputy Chair Anusha Suryanarayanan at firstname.lastname@example.org Sunday, September 15, 2019 at 11:59 PM EDT. (Note all times are Eastern Time)
For your nomination materials please submit a single MS Word file (using attached form) detailing:
–Your name, title, place of employment, e-mail address, and phone number;
–The Board position(s) for which you are seeking nomination;
–A candidate statement of one page or less addressing why you would like to serve on the YPT-Chicago Chapter Board of Directors;
–What skill(s) you possess or would like to develop through that board position; and
–What new ideas you would bring to the board.
Please keep in mind while writing your statement that it will be circulated among fellow YPT-Chicago members as part of their voting materials.
Terms of office are one year, from November 1, 2019 to October 31, 2020. Except for the Chair position, there is a two-term limit to the number of consecutive terms a Board Member may serve in a single position, unless the Board Member is running unopposed for the position. If the Board Member is running for the same position for a third consecutive term or more and there is another candidate running for the same position, the Board Member must withdraw their nomination and will not be allowed to run for that position.Candidates may run for multiple positions. If a candidate wins more than one position, then that person may choose which position he/she would prefer to serve. Elections will be held for the following YPT-Chicago Board of Directors positions:
Deputy Chair: The Deputy shall help to coordinate activities involving multiple officers and assist the Chair in his or her responsibilities. In the absence of the Chair, the Deputy Chair shall act in the official capacity of the Chair and perform all duties of that office. The Deputy Chair also manages the election process. The Deputy Chair will also be Chair-elect for the next term, so please note that this constitutes a two-year commitment to the YPT-Chicago board.
Secretary/Vice Chair for Administration: The Vice Chair for Administration shall keep full and accurate records of all business and proceedings at Chapter Board meetings. The Vice Chair for Administration shall prepare meeting agendas, meeting minutes, and keep accurate organization records. The Vice Chair for Administration is also responsible for maintaining an active list of YPT-Chicago members.
Treasurer/Vice Chair for Finance: The Vice Chair for Finance shall be responsible for the collection of dues, and the safekeeping of funds, including reporting of receipts, expenditures, and balances at the request of the Chapter Board.
Vice Chair(s) for Programming I & II: The Vice Chair for Programming is responsible for coordinating all speakers, dates, and locations for the professional development programs and workshops, as well as organizing networking events. He or she also coordinates with the Vice Chair for Communications regarding electronic communications to the membership about events and updating the website as needed. There are two Vice Chair of Program positions available. The top two vote-getters in this category will be awarded the positions.
Vice Chair for Communications: The Vice Chair for Communications is responsible for external communications to YPT-Chicago members and friends. This includes messaging on behalf of the board, announcement and promotion of upcoming events, and management of YPT-Chicago social media channels and newsletter. Minimal proficiency in Facebook, LinkedIn, and WordPress is preferred for this position.
Vice Chair for Student Relations: The Vice Chair for Student Relations is responsible for communicating and reaching out to local universities to provide career and networking opportunities for students, by communicating fellowship, internships, and grant opportunities that could help current students in transportation-related programs to advance their careers. He or she will be responsible for organizing and conducting YPT-Chicago’s Annual Student Speed Networking event in the fall.
Vice Chair for Sponsorship: The Vice Chair for Sponsorship is responsible for acquiring new and maintaining past sponsorships. This involves reaching out to local companies a part of the transportation industry of Chicago to secure sponsorship for YPT-Chicago.
ELECTIONS PROCESS FOR YPT-CHICAGO BOARD 2019-2020 ELECTIONS
August 14: Nomination period opens for YPT-Chicago 2018-2019 Board positions.
September 15: Candidates’ applications for Board positions are due at 11:59pm EST.
October 1: All eligible voters will receive the full slate of candidate statements and information on elections procedures via e-mail.
October 15: All eligible voters will receive an email with voting instructions. Online voting for YPT-International and YPT-Chicago Chapter elections opens at 9:00 AM EDT.
October 26: Online voting for YPT-International and YPT-Chicago Chapter elections closes at 8:00 PM EDT. YPT International and YPT-Chicago Board members and nominees will be notified of election results shortly thereafter.
November 1: New term begins for the YPT-International and YPT-Chicago Chapter 2019-2020 Boards of Directors.
Early November: All election winners will be announced via email to all Friends and Members.
